Gardening Advice: pick up any fallen twigs, leaves and rotten fruit from around the bottom of trees and plants and this will help to prevent some diseases and insects
Gardening Advice: My tip is not to be too tidy! Tidied leaves can be sprinkled along fences or under hedges to provide shelter for wildlife to use over winter. Cut branches can be left in a discreet pile somewhere to shelter beetles or even hedgehogs. Don't automatically cut down nettles as certain butterfly's overwinter eggs on the underside of leave and they have early spring flowers that are a source of nectar for early bees. In fact it can help shrubs like hydrangeas if you don't cut off the dead flowers as it provides protection from frost so wait till Spring before you give them a tidy. Also some plants can look very sculptural with a frosting or early morning dew. So think of the help you can give wildlife in your garden this Winter and leave some jobs for Spring.
And as always, keep your eye on the Competition section of the forums for future contests. You never know what you could win next!
Happy Gardening!
