Hi Palustris - Welcome, welcome! We're glad to have you on board. And yes, it's very quiet around the forum right now. The boards are usually slow during these cold, snowy winter months. Tell us - how is your winter garden coming along? What's new in your gardening world?
Moles can be such a nuisance! Have you tried anything to get rid of them? I know that moles can eat their wait in grubs each day, so if you don't have grubs you won't have any moles. I've heard of a few home remedies that might help! Some people like to sprinkle coffe grounds over the soil where you have noticed the moles. Supposedly the acidity from the coffee kills the grubs, therefore forcing the moles to go somewhere else to find food. I've also heard that human urine poured in the mole holes will make your moles find a new home. There is always the more traditional vibration sticks (which I haven't had too much luck with) or traps placed near the mole's hole.
@all - Does anyone else have any suggestions for getting rid of moles? Share your thoughts!
I have tried every known method of getting rid of moles from urine (poured 200 gallons of grey water down a run when we had to empty the Septic tank for repairs), through all sorts of vibrating things to moth balls. None of them worked. I now use scissor traps. The problem where they are coming up at the moment is that there is only a few inches of soil over a layer of brick rubble. The runs are under that and it is very difficult to get through and into them. Does not help that we are surrounded by fields full of them. The soil too is so wet that it is very difficult to work on.
Sounds like you have a major case of mole trouble. Yikes! I'm terribly sorry that I have no new suggestions for you to try. If you don't mind, please let me and the community know if you figure out a way to get rid of those pesky subterranian pests. Our fingers are crossed!
